King's Proclamations Are Read Aloud In Edinburgh, Cardiff, And Belfast

On Sunday, crowds gathered in Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Belfast to hear formal pronouncements to the devolved nations that Queen Elizabeth II had died and King Charles III had ascended to the throne.

In a centuries-old ceremony, officials dressed in heraldic robes repeated the proclamation made in London on Saturday that a new king is the leader of the United Kingdom.

At Mercat Cross in Edinburgh, the Lord Lyon King of Arms reread the proclamation of the new king. He then declared, "God save the King," to which the audience responded.
