Sebastian Stan Has Just Revealed The Cast Of Marvel's Thunderbolts Film
The following slate of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects was announced this weekend at the D23 expo. One of them is a different kind of team-up movie involving various past villains and anti-heroes from previous stories.
Sebastian Stan took the stage to confirm his return as Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. the Winter Soldier, in Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts, among a "good troubled bunch" of returning characters.
Florence Pugh will play Yelena Belova, the breakthrough character from 2021's Black Widow who previously starred in the Hawkeye series on Disney+. Following the death of Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) in Avengers: Endgame, many fans expected Yelena to take on the role of Black Widow in a future film, and it appears that she may do so in Thunderbolts. Like her sister's, Yelena's past as an assassin means she has much to atone for.

- Zemo's coming, they kept him off the art for a reason but I'm sure he'll be back for the film. Looking forward.
- It’s really surprising to see Bucky and Red Guardian as part of the lineup and see Yelena and “Taskmaster” in the team as well as an interesting surprise. It’s gonna be interesting seeing the team dynamic when we are getting 2 “Captain America”, ghost, Crimson Widow, Bucky, and “Taskmaster”
- Maybe the reason abomination isn't here is because of his involvement in She hulk maybe at the end of the season they would tease his thunderbolts involvement that's why they kept him out here and for some they might be saving his involvement as he might be playing someone against this group or maybe he has a cameo in something before this project is out that would give us a hint.
- a very interesting lineup, with lots of possibilities but the lineup in question, wasn't something I was hoping for, not having Zemo or Abomination was very disappointing, I think he will be part of it, they kept him off the art for a reason but I'm looking forward indeed
- I do question the lineup. I feel like they just wanted to announce people but I think they'll rethink this lineup. You have so many great options - Zemo, Iron Maiden, Abomination - that I think they'll likely want to include them as well. Also, there's a bit of redundancy in having three characters with the same powers on the team (Red Guardian, Bucky, Walker).
- I think it could be awesome if they set up the Thunderbolts to be the MCUs Cabal. This would make them a truly tragic group who are heroes but are tasked with doing unspeakable things that only characters like them could do. That would raise the stakes of their role in the MCU and justify how you got buy-in from characters like Bucky or Yelena who are largely heroic characters who were close to former Avengers and try to do right by those legacies.
- The fact that Bucky is in the thunderbolts is crazy can’t wait to see how this goes.
- I'm almost certain they're not revealing Abomination as part of the team, simply because it would be a spoiler for She-Hulk. We see in the midseason trailer for the show that Emil transformed back into Abomination, which means he's gonna go straight back to jail since he was only released if he swore never to do so again. I think we'll see him get recruited in his cell at some point in She-Hulk. More importantly, his whole character fits in PERFECTLY with what looks to be the theme of the film, which is clearly shown because of what all the characters on the team have in common: wanting redemption and seeking forgiveness for their dark past.
- Well we already knew Yelena and Walker were being recruited. Was FULLY not expecting to see Winter Soldier in this lineup. Be interesting to see how that one ties in with the new Cap. The fangirl in me is screaming about Bucky and Yelena in the same movie though. A couple of my faves.
- Happy to see Sebastian Stan back - was not expecting him in Thunderbolts.
- An interesting lineup. I am very curious about who they'll be up against in the movie. There are a lot of possibilities.
- I was thinking of Zemo or Abomination being part of the Thunderbolts, but so far, they have the best team lineup of Thunderbolts. Although, I believe that Marvel has some surprises for both: Abomination and Zemo (mostly Zemo while Abomination is possible) is hiding until the film is released in theatres which would be sooner in 2024).
- The trailers for Secret Invasion and Werewolf by Night had me jumping with excitement I can't wait for next month
- Was expecting the comics adaptation but hope that happens sometime down the road. I loved the eventual reveal in the comics, but still a good group to bring to the screen!
- The lineup is interesting. With Bucky being part of the crew, I wonder which way they will go. Maybe more of a dark area of the government rather than a General Ross kill squad. I honestly thought they were going to do a misfit-type superhero show.
- I'm happy to see more of US Agent, the guy was off his rails in FATWS. let's go!
- I'm assuming they are keeping Abomination and/or Red Hulk off the stage because of She-Hulk. Otherwise, they have no heavy hitters on that team, which means it would be more of a spy film with anti-heroes in it than a real Thunderbolts team of reformed villains. Also, I couldn't see more than movie length version of Capt. America & Winter Soldier.
